Ural motorcycle sales up 39 percent in 2010


Niche motorcycle maker Ural has announced that sales were up 39 percent in 2010, which is quite a surprise, as the company makes classic bikes based on a dated design. Not only that, but the cheapest model starts at $10,000 with the Ural T. Nevertheless, there seems to be a market for Russian made Ural bikes.

Peugeot Scooters Launch in China

Peugeot has officially invaded China, with the opening of its first Chinese store in December. This was announced as it displays its new wares at the Shanghai World Expo, running from July 14th through August 15th.

Chinese firm Quingqi Motorcycles will distribute the Peugueot scooters where both companies each a 50% stake. Peugeot will offer Chinese consumers a five-model lineup, comprising of three scooters and two motorcycles, ranging in displacement from 80 to 125cc. All five will be built in China at a plant located in Jinan.

Scooter Solution for Drunk Drivers in New Mexico

Drinking too much could lead to accidents, especially for drivers. However, one man may yet change all that and save more lives as he offers a special service where drunk drivers are picked up by personnel through a foldable and collapsible scooter.

Elliot Shelton bares that you can call them and other drivers will show up on these collapsible scooters which can be temporarily stored at the vehicle’s trunk while being driven home.

Leo Motors Opens Plant in Korea

Leo Motors Inc. opened a manufacturing plant in Hanam City, Korea last June 25, where an estimated 1,000 units of Hilless 1,3, and 5 scooters per month will be produced. Prior to the opening of the plant, Leo Motors outsourced manufacturing to independent supplier facilities which sadly was not cost effective.

With the opening of the new plant, Leo intends to begin global sales of its scooters and to show its scooters in international exhibitions and fairs more actively.

Yamaha Set to Double Showrooms for Rural Consumers

Yamaha is all set to double its India-based showrooms which will help aid in the company’s intent to tap the rural market. India Yamaha aims to increase their number of showrooms to 2,000, majority of which will be situated at small towns and rural hubs.

The company is refurbishing some of the existing outlets in small towns and rural hubs and adding new ones called Yamaha Bike Corners, organizing free motorcycle service camps and test rides. Sales of scooters rose 27 percent to 1.46 million units in the year ended March 31.
